Day one at Island School started well and we got cracking laying down the bricks for three new teachers’ houses. By the time we finished in the late afternoon, the walls were almost to roof height. What an achievement! We also fixed the liners in both dams, which had been moved due to the floods in December.
Other colleagues sorted out lunch for the children. Making sure the children have a decent meal each day is still a priority for us as the school is still missing out on government funding.
With the children’s education high on our To Do list, we got together with the Director of Education, the new Headteacher and Deputy Head to share ideas. We discussed ways to improve what’s offered at the school and we’ve also sourced some exams papers that will prove invaluable for monitoring the progress of children in the upper school
Next on the list: a good night’s sleep and roll on day two!
