The generosity of William Hill staff never ceases to amaze me.
With the fresh water being installed for the community at Ol Maisor, during the October trip, I was keen to educate the children around the importance of looking after their teeth. My son’s girlfriend, who is a dental nurse, kindly donated 100 children’s toothbrushes and mini toothpaste for me to take on my trip, as well as a model set of teeth which I can use to show the children how to clean their teeth properly. The dilemma I had was that I wanted to give a brush and toothpaste to every child and I did not have enough.
After sharing this with an LBO Manager Yvonne McMenamin she turned up to see me later that day with two carrier bags full of children’s toothbrushes which she paid for herself. I was blown away with her generosity but it did not end there, she then spoke to her DOM Linzi Martin and suggested that some of the money they had raised in the District, during their sponsored walk could be used to buy the remaining children a small tube of toothpaste. So, thanks to their support I am now in a position to give every child at the school a toothbrush and toothpaste. A big thank you to Yvonne and Linzi and the staff of District 194 who helped to raise the money to buy these items.
After we have gone home from Ol Maisor the toothpaste will quickly run out and most children will not be able to get anymore, however I have been advised that it is the brushing of the teeth that is important (even without toothpaste). I also understand that not every child will continue brush their teeth, however, if we can get some of the children into the good habit of brushing, it will have all been worthwhile.
